The AHC21020 Certificate II in Conservation and Ecosystem Management will deliver entry-level practical skills and knowledge in recognising fauna, collecting and preserving plant specimens and collecting native seeds.

This certificate reflects the role of new conservation workers or nursery assistants. Workers will undertake routine tasks under supervision.

Your training will focus on: 

  • How to participate in environmentally sustainable work practices
  • Understanding natural areas and how to protect them
  • Applying collection and preservation techniques
  • How to observe and report on environmental work practices
  • Undertaking propagation activities

AST auspices this qualification to secondary schools so their teachers can deliver it to secondary school students as part of their VET studies.

Occupational titles may include:

  • Conservation Assistant
  • Gardener

Assessment may consist of

  • written answers to questions
  • role plays
  • holistic assessment

Evidence may be 

  • written 
  • audio recordings
  • video recordings
  • observation
  • Zoom recording
  • interview
  • documents

All students will engage in a language, literacy, numeracy and digital literacy (LLND) activity to evaluate potential support requirements.

The AHC21020 Certificate II in Conservation and Ecosystem Management consists of 15 units:

  • 2 core units
  • 13 elective units

Elective units will vary depending on consultation with industry.

Core units include:

AHCWHS201 Participate in work health and safety processes
AHCWRK209 Participate in environmentally sustainable work practices

 

This qualification is offered to secondary schools on a fee-for-service basis, where a fee is charged for each individual student’s enrolment.
